Painted Smile.

by babblingxbrooke   Nov 16, 2007

With her wet streaked face; her finger tips gently touch the damp window.
beyond the pouring rain; no one really knows.

she hides under her covers, for there she feels comfort.
she is not liable to painful actions or words that make her hurt.

no one sees the body that she is ashamed to show,
the opinions that she speaks, no one hears or knows.

no one ever again has to pretend,
that they really truly are her good friends.

no one has to accept her; have her tag along,
she no longer has to fake that she is not strong.

she doesn't have to be loved; it doesn't matter anymore,
for she is under the covers, behind the locked door.

but then her alarm rings and she paints a smile on her face,
to go into this world, where she feels she has no place.

Beautiful. sometimes you have to paint a smile...sometimes society breaks you down so much that you have to take it on with a brave demeanor or it will crush you. love the poem. =]

I can say that I really enjoyed reading this poem. I actually read it more than once to make sure I fully understood it, but really because it drawed me in so much. We paint smiles on our faces, most people do sometimes. I try to remind myself not to paint a smile all the time but instead make it real. This life's got a vice on most of us. It seems to be only the people who actually hold something sacred or know that life is more than just school, sex, and partying (But those things are good too, haha). I learned you have to go and find something that is worth something in the world. Trust me, it's not in high school. And I know what you mean by hiding under the covers. You meant it more than just hiding in your bed, I think. It's ironic. We hide so that we can open our true selves. I understand, and I am learning at the same time. Everytime I hear or in this case read a person's real thought's, it's like we're not alone anymore, we find another person who understand's as much as yourself that you are not alone. Enjoyable read. Thanks for sharing yourself.
It helps in more ways than you think.
