Forever and Ever

by Katie   Nov 18, 2007

In forests found fossils and myths of math
Playing in ditches where water had dried.
Then you'd say, "I think it's time for your bath."
I found a bird but you told me it died.
It wasn't until you explained I cried.
We Skipped stones to see the ripple array.
"You're the best dad ever" I'd say with pride.
"Love you forever and ever" you'd say.

Tears fears and blood smears. You were a Bloodbath.
Dark dreams of death drowned you. You couldn't hide.
Am I Electra On Azalea Path?
"I've got to take it on the Otherside"
You'd sing as I heard stuff of suicide.
"I think I will not hang myself to-day."
Then cocktails of memories would flood tide.
"Love you forever and ever" you'd say.

I watched a phoenix drink from the birdbath.
"Something of him will always last" I sighed.
But then I understood; life was his wrath.
I saw life and death was not the divide,
It's when we are the prisoners inside.
You were stuck without wind within some bay
With no hope but the slow sweep of the tide.
"Love you forever and ever" you'd say.

And now in me there is this other side
But neither one will ever fly away
Because something in living we are tied.
"Love you forever and ever" We'd say.
