Green Uniform

by Robert   Nov 18, 2007

Every word they said still echoes in his head
Every punch and kick is still felt deep inside
Every tear he cried, is still cried every day
And no matter how hard he tries, he can’t wash the pain away

Every poem he wrote at lunchtime- is still written
Every tiny little bruise, all over his body- is still felt and seen
Every night he goes to sleep- he still dreams about them;
The big boys in the green uniform- they still haunt him

and his mother used to cry with him- now she still cries for him
and his father tried to help him- he still tries helps him
and his sister used to worry about him- she still worries
and he craved a better life- he still craves it

Every insult that he gets- it still feels like a stab
And every disappointment, feels like one of those kicks he used to get
And every time he is rejected- he feels alone again, in a crowded world
After all these years, he’s still the weak boy in the green uniform
