Last Good Time In Town

by Daisy if you do   Nov 21, 2007

Kids of the seventies turned to teens of the eighties
Just good kids, far from gentlemen and ladies
Cruising through the streets of our little hometown
Tailgate in the parking lot, everyone gathered round

We were dirt floor poor and no plans for any college
Learned it all listening to Hank's profound knowledge
Jealous and Rebellious with the world at our feet
Trips to Redneck Riviera and dancing in the street

Senior trips, pep rallies, and hometown football games
Thought we were invincible, but, oh how times change
Priorities changed from Jordache jeans and all night skates,
To muscle cars, prom dresses, and first dates

Def Leppard, and White Lion were topping the charts
Saw the Scorpions in concert singing about Gorky Park
Poison sang the love song "every rose has its thorn"
Martha Quinn on MTV and the "House of Hair" was born

Looking back now at how things used to be
Treasuring each friendship and every memory
Those were the good times, I've realized that now
Each and every night was the last good time in town

I love this stanza. All the treasured friends from our teenage years. How much we long for those days again. Excellent imagery and rhyme.
