Does Love Really Hurt?

by Jenni Marie   Nov 22, 2007

Actions speak louder than words, that's what they say
Only if I'm to be honest, I find that a little cliche
Every single day, hearts being maimed and broken
From cruel actions committed, spiteful words spoken

People cheating on loved ones, who then do the same
Often in retaliation, but then things will never change
Others leaving without a word, partners left in despair
Asking why they're no longer loved, why they don't care

So many people, always swearing to never love again
They've become so tired, of dealing with all the pain
Closing themselves of, mind body soul and heart
Determined that never again, will they be torn apart

Constantly hearing stories, of all these broken fairytales
Seems almost everyone, has become destined to fail
They say "One in three marriages end in divorce,"
Seems the path of true love, isn't a smooth course

Only can't help but wonder, why love gets the blame
When it's actually people's actions, that cause the pain
Love isn't responsible, for treating people like dirt
So tell me, is it people's actions or love that hurts?

Now this was awesome and so true. I think we often forget that it is you who decides how you feel and how you react to something. This was a great poem with a very true message and yet we all still say that Love Hurts.
    Great job.
