Untouchable

by Jenni Marie   Nov 23, 2007

Recalling the pain of my younger years
Realizing now just how easy I was to break
Night time filled with lonely broken tears
Day time with a smile so deceitful and fake

Constantly tearing myself up every day
Suffocating in such overwhelming pain
Listening to what the enemy had to say
Always feeling only humiliation and shame

Letting people always get under my skin
Constantly feeling I wasn't good enough
Inner torment driving me insane within
Every single day, life seeming far to tough

Only now I've finally become stronger
Know I'm better than them, always will be
Wont let them cut me to pieces any longer
Finally accepting there's nothing wrong with me

To start with I really like the style of this piece, I think it really makes the poem swing along from one line to the next effortlessly. Solid and sturdy rhyme scheme right from the start; never sounding forced or familiar.

I think the topic is a really good one to write about, it's not often you read a poem with such a meaning. As youngsters, we forever seem to be teased and tormented by cruel kids and bullies. One day we finally wake up and realise that there is nothing wrong with us, it's rather something wrong with the ones doing the insulting. Really nice message to put out.

A really solid entry into this contest.
    Thoroughly enjoyed every syllable.

Wow excellent....it held so much power and emotion for a contest poem it was perfect. I enjoyed the little inspirational twist at the end of the slightly gloomy poetic piece...very nice
