Tonight the Headphones will Deliver the Words That I Can`t Say

by HOLLYWOODxBANGBANG   Nov 23, 2007

When I packed up my bags to leave, I had good intentions in mind,
But the longer I sit under these neon hotel signs to think about this,
The more I regret every decision I ever made regarding me and you.
And all of the words I kept locked inside my glass heart for so long,
Came shattering down onto the wooden floor trapped in my tears;
`Cuz the more the clock ticked away at my fading conscience,
The more time I had to play them out, to word every line just right.
You should have seen it coming, all of those late nights you spent,
You were working at the office, but you were never once alone there;
Lying to me, you looked me in the eyes, handing me another drink,
But a person can only drink away their coordination to a certain extent,
And I`ve by far exceeded my limit, so put down that God forsaken bottle.

There`s a mixed tape left out on the counter beside a glass of wine,
And there`s a list of instructions left out by the phone, so before you dial;
Read the list and follow the directions, leading you to my broken heart.
Step 1: Grab your glass of wine and sit down on the black sofa;
A side note: the bottle of wine is left there for you, you`ll need more than one.
Step 2: Pick up the mixed tape I made for you and take a deep breath;
Before you press play, make sure that your glass is full, now press play.
Step 3: Throw up your feet, throw back your arms and try to relax,
Because tonight, the headphones will deliver the words that I can`t say.
All the time you spent in the office with that blonde secretary,
Gave me the time that I needed to sit and think my choices through,
There`s a little bit of everything, to take you into the back of my mind.

I left a picture of the better times out beside where you`re sitting,
And I hope when you look at it your heart starts to beat faster,
Because there`s a funny thing about it, your heart is drawn in your pants,
And your mouth and eyes are stitched closed; you don`t need to see --
All that`s left up to you is to listen. Oh Dear, here comes the part,
I timed the VCR out just right for this song, and I`m hoping it strikes a cord,
If you don`t remember a time that you sang this to me, look up;
The scene playing out on the television might look a little familiar, yes?
If I planned this out accordingly to how well you let me know you,
And I think I did, your glass as well as the bottle should be about empty.
So turn around, go back to the office and spend the night in her arms,
Because tonight, the headphones speak for me when they say goodbye.

    Holyy bejeezez. Wow. You not only put a picture in my mind but a whole movie. Lol. I loved the length of this poem because you kept my attention throughout the whole peice.

    Also, the flow was not off at all and the emotion was tremendous. Every bit of this poem was a.m.a.z.i.n.g! Again, great job!

    Interesting for sure. perhaps your most intriguing piece. I enjoyed it a lot. Actually writing out the steps was quite interesting. It provided many good visuals and really left the reader feeling void of any love for him. Good job!
