Contents of life

by Verita   Nov 24, 2007

There were wars and peaces
and blueberry muffins
Summers and winters
and shining black coffins.

Freckles and lovers
and soldiers in tears
Dynasties, cottages
ugly, pierced ears

Winners and losers
and those who didn't care
Servants to slaves
and men with white hair.

And laughter in the air
and food that was rare
and siblings to scare
and sorrows too deep
for a mother to bare
