Change

by Natalie84   Nov 24, 2007

Each and every morning
I walk out my front door
In fear of never returning
I drive with an apprehensive foot
Fearful the driver behind me
May shoot through my legacy

A man stops me on the street
Just to provide a smile
He sees frustration upon my face
And attempts to share his pleasant grace
Dear God forgive me
For I am afraid
This man may be the rapist
Wanted across six states

A young woman pulls over to assist
The sun lit ablaze
On a heated summer day
As I push the stroller
My child cries
As hot as it is
I refuse the ride
For the woman in that car
Mourns the birth of a still born

Leaving the mall, it's become dark
Footsteps behind, steady with my pace
Excuse me ma'am
I noticed you back there
A sweet man interested in me
Tonight I'm unable to care
This man in business attire
Has already killed four woman
In the last year alone

As I pray for a brighter day
Another bomb is dropped
Yet another trigger is pulled
One more fight for equality
Is put to death
As I plead for change
More children are abused
One more victim is found

Perfection is not requested
But a median is needed
Drop your weapons
Hate, anger, racism
Surrender your guns
Defuse this madness
It's time to stop running
Face the truth
Protect our youth

    Wow...
This touched me deeply. Whole poem is simply amazing, from the beginning to the end, so true and with meaningful and deep message.
I feel the same way about the state of this world, and this poem sounded like an echo of some of my thoughts while I was reading it. It's truly a great read, filled with powerful imagery, profound thoughts and it's very effective.
