The Warm Embrace That Will Never Come

by Andrea Marsh   Nov 27, 2007

Today was the best day of her life,
Her best friend asked her to become something more.
He and she walked down the hallway,
Her heart brimming with happiness.

Over the next few days,
They were constantly together,
"The perfect couple," people would say.
She would smile, and he would grin,
For they were boyfriend and girlfriend instead of best friends for life.

Together they went to the dance,
The last slow song came on.
The boy held the girl tightly,
And they danced like no one was watching.

After two days of not seeing eachother,
The girl was anxious.
She wanted him to wrap his arms around her,
And hold her once again in that warm embrace.

But this was no to be.
For when the girl skipped up to the boy,
A smile on her face,
Arms outstratched,
He pushed her away.
His eyes glared and questioned her motives.
The girl froze, unable to recover,
From the boy's icy stare.
Without goodbye, it was over.

Three weeks later,
The girl recovered.
With hope in her heart and a twinkle in her eye,
She once again approached the boy.
But his fingers were entwined with those,
Of the dark-haired girl standing next to him.
The girl gasped, and felt her heart split in two.
This was something she felt she could not recover from,
At least for a while.

Why do people ask you to be something more,
If they don't even truly want you in the beginning?

The girl never got her warm embrace,
The boy never held her again.
Now she is doomed to walk the hallways,
People sighing and saying,
"What a shame, they looked so cute together."

Her shoulders and arms are freezing,
Though she's wearing thre layers.
What her arms are waiting for,
Is that warm embrace,
That happy hug,
The arms of her love wrapped around her.
But a tear falls down her cheek,
For she knows that the familiar arms of her love,
Will never touch her again.
