Rain Still Falls

by When heaven breaks whose job is it to fix it   Nov 28, 2007

Rain Still Falls

Lightning flashes
Her blank stared revealed,
Ice blue eyes,
Glassy with tears.

Tears that mix with the falling rain,
Sliding down her porcelain cheeks,
lingering on her quivering red lips.
She tastes salt, and memories
of her distant past.

She breathes,
in, out
And glances up at the silo,
In all its concrete glory,
Silhouetted in the storm of the night.

With all her strength she clambers up,
Climbing steadily,
Rung after rung,
Higher and higher,
Till she reaches the top.

She falls to her knees,
Her poor tormented soul,
How did this happen?
She screams to know
But no-one can hear her,
No-one ever will
The wind stole the words,
Threw them away,
No more questions.

She cries aloud and crawls.
Her tears start to fall,
She can no longer take this,
It hurts too much inside.

She wants out,
More than she has ever wanted anything before.
She goes to the edge,
She knows what to do.

As if they guess
The thunder and lightning cease their fight,
The clouds roll away,
Revealing the night

She stops in her step,
And stares the sky,
All the stars watching,
Wanting to ask why.

The rain still falls,
Her solace, her friend.
The rain still falls
It will till the end
