Death of a Gentleman

by Wilman Vergara   Dec 14, 2007

Medieval knights practiced the code of chivalry,
Courted Renaissance madams without any inquiry.
Only 600 years later I practice a lost art,
One that is looked down upon even before it starts.

They say nothing in life comes easy,
But when it does, it is mocked and even called cheesy.
They want me to challenge, even intimidate,
But I dont have time for that Im here to facilitate,
The exchange of passion, love, and intimacy,
Im here for reliability not just propinquity.

Why is it a sin for a man to show affection?
Im only showing love and that I offer protection,
For a heart that may have many footprints,
But that is where I want to leave an everlasting imprint.

I guess treating a girl like a queen is just part of history,
Whether they want a man or a coward is just a mystery.
Perhaps chivalry is extinct; its in the past,
Because the fact of the matter is nice guys finish last.
