A Soul for Sale

by Jemma   Dec 14, 2007

There'll be an angel and devil waiting to cart me away
With a smile or a smirk on their face waiting to play
I'll be met with scales and a weighing of grey heart
To what end shall I construct my new start?

When judgement comes in the face of fury
With an honest judge and a perceptive jury
A soul for sale, torn between two infatuations
A victim of my anger and foolish misinterpretation

They seem to have misplaced the sign that states what is mine
A fear-struck survival, and reminder, an obsessed man's hidden shrine
Devoted to self-loathing, despair and wishful thinking
Doubts in the future that like the tide of yesterday are sinking

Innocence is deadly and temptation so sweet
You never know, on these paths, which cynic you'll meet
Parading in the guise of another broken man
Beckoning like only deviant angels can

Buy me a mask, a pretty disguise
Anything to hide the hatred in my eyes
Who wants to see an angel with horns on their head?
Demons as shadows following in my stead

The wind whistles in my pitiful drums
My soul takes residence in the slums
The dirty dregs of my heart's imagination
My eternal incrimination

Sleeping in the gutters of the sin sent away
The mournful angel faces as they see me led astray
They see the signpost thumped hard in thickened mud
This soul's for sale for nothing, for it is nothing good

I guess no one wants to pay
For something they'll never truly own anyway
For it's not even mine; one day I'll have it taken away
But is anyone up for a laugh, just today?

My plight is an old one, each day a wasted breath
Each morning awakening with a little, twisted death
Hell, ain't life so damning and contagious to the core
An incessant rumbling like the sea at the shore

As the mourning dew weeps in the light of unsullied day
The wasted, saddened faces swept away
Stroll amongst the fates' grasses and hide
At what point after midnight do sun and moon collide?

There's a lifetime to live my lie and deceit
A familiar fairytale, so sickly sweet
I know that no one's going to buy and set free
A lonesome, malevolent fiend like me

These lines set a spark inside of me for some reason. It felt like you were really sending a clear and personal message here. 5/5
