My Heart (Sonnet)

by Famous Last Words   Dec 15, 2007

My first attempt at a Shakespearean sonnet! Be nice!
*As a reminder, a Shakespearean sonnet is in the rhyme scheme ABAB CDCD EFEF GG, 14 lines with 10 syllables to a line in iambic pentameter*

My heart, it leaps with joy when you are near
Then why did my eyes always seem to stray
Sweet nothings you had whispered in my ear
Fell d.ead as flowers on a winters day

The kisses you have planted on my lips
Are sweeter than the first full day of spring
My love for you could sail one thousand ships
As Helen was pursued by those of kings

Shall I then seek your face at mornings light?
I know the smile you wear will please my eyes
But it was not with you I spent the night
His face I could not even recognize

The greatest thing Ive ever had is you
Thank god you did not say that we were through
