Dear Daddy (About WAR IN IRAQ)

by ;Samm;   May 12, 2004

Dear Daddy,

Can you tell me again
Where you had to go
Mommy tried to explain
But I really don't know

Two men came here
Just last night
One in blue
The other in white

Mommy went and
Opened the door
When she saw who it was
She fell to the floor

One said
"Ma'am I'm sorry...He's not coming back
He's been killed in action in Baghdad, Iraq."

She called out your name
And kept screaming "WHY!?"
Mommy is strong
So why did she cry?

She said that you fought for her
And fought for me
That you fought for our country
So we could be free

I need to know Daddy,
Are you there to stay?
Is Heaven really
That far away?

--My dad is a United States Marine, He's not in Iraq, but I know many people who are. When a Marine dies in combat, a CAO and a Chaplian (Priest) come to your door to tell the family, they don't call or send a letter.

This poem was REALLY good! It made me cry. I am only 17 and my boyfriend is about to be 18. When I graduate we are planning on getting engaged. The hard part is the fact that he is planning to either go to the air force academy next year or going straight to basic training. I am so scared of what will happen no matter what his decision is. The air force academy is across the country and the war that he would be fighting in after basic training is across the world. I am so scared of losing him.
