Dusk

by Brenda   Dec 19, 2007

I tried you on for size
Silencing my heart
Assimilated to your touch
Forgetting all the costs
Every second with you, is a second I am not
Not where I want to be
Not with who I want to see
Labor of love the past
I love you like the dawn
But my heart remains undone
Forever waiting for the sun to set
I left my heart in that impending darkness
The darkness before you now consumes me
I feel tied to the hours before you
My heart remains unable to move
I do not wish to cause you pain
But your continued love will forever be in vain
I left my heart at dusk
You promise me a bright new morning
Consume me with your love
Briefly I begin to anticipate your light
Bask in the rays from above
But the day is long and so revives that longing
I have been there at sunset
I have seen its joys
Now nothing but the thought of impending night can satisfy
I care, but this could never be
Because in the end I realize you never truly had me
