Their Rescue

by Rebecca   Dec 20, 2007

Dog paddling around the frozen lake
Much longer and it will be their lives to take.

Two are out, but one is still stuck
Watching, our eyes with hopeful luck.

The flashing red lights reflects the skyline
Keeping one warm through heat that is mine.

One more to save from this blissful night
He grabs her collar and pulls when all his might.

All three are safe and sound, trying to keep warm
Hypothermia almost hits them with an unrelenting storm.
They look up at you with thankful brown eyes
They say "Thank You!" and that is no lie.

They can rest well in a warm bed tonight
With their masters tucking them in tight.

They will eventually recover from this hell
No, they can't speak, but barking they tell.

How caring people had rescued them days ago
We have become their companions, but never their foe.
