And in shadow

by Laura Lamarca   Dec 22, 2007

Steady dripping in caverns of indigo,
as saline slipped from jagged portals
and soul seeped like sifted noodles-

great gasps caught in mouth's distress...

there you witnessed that rocky view
against an ivory backdrop
of a bare valley wall, caressing cheeks
with comfort and care-

soothing tears from seeming centuries cried.

You watched as light drained from visions
of day, drowning delights in firewood
and flame, as shame cascaded
in secrets spent and repentance flowed
from lips of vulnerability

and the waterfall gushed from granite gaze
to form in pools of puddled pride,
you reached inside to steady me
through sorrow's sighs...to love.

Whispers reflected your story
through prisms of my own experiences
and dark sparks diminished
as sobs slowly eased-

hushed then in vast ocean's
gentle rise and sway

and there, in nudity and in shadow...

you refused to let me fall.
