The Anti-Angst

by Sean Allen   May 13, 2004

I can write angry poetry too.
Bad things have happened to me.
I live in a good town,
I have a good family.
But I can be angry anyway.

I can write sad poetry too.
I have been rejected,
I have been dumped,
I have a beautiful girlfriend.
Forget that I'm happy,
I can write sad poetry too.

I can write about suicide;
About parents who don't care.
Except I've never thought about it,
And I've never really been alone.
I can still write about pain,
Even if I've never really felt it.

You can write your poetry,
About teen-angst and final tears,
About death and love and loss
And pain and grades and teachers,
Because you don't need to know
What you are talking about.

You can write angry poetry.
I can write angry poetry.
We all can write everything.
It doesn't mean we're alive.

maybe it was intended or maybe not, but the flow is kind of.... sudden. Even though it doesnt rhyme, this one doesnt flow. Maybe it was intentionally angst i dont know. It's unique nonetheless.

Oh Breyanna, I guess it was more of a personal message than a widespread generalization. I don't know if you'll ever read this response... but in any case, this poem isn't meant to insult people who are writing about experiences or pain, its more of a self-criticism... i think

i like it. Your take on your own life is unique but i would catagorize it under poems about life. But even though your life is lucky like so, it doesnt mean others are as fortunate as you. Keep writing
