Missing Puzzle Piece

by James   Dec 26, 2007

An intricate maze of sorts,
this puzzle made of glass,
and through the shape it shifts,
the shadows that it casts,
reveals one missing piece,
one single outlined shape,
the completion that has ceased,
the finished puzzle it would make,
relying solely on this shape,
completely made of glass,
and I finally found this piece,
to place at center mass,
but it slipped right through my fingers,
and it shattered on the ground,
and I watched it spread across the floor,
as defeated I was crowned,
the only fitting piece,
that I would ever, ever find,
my puzzle will never quite be finished,
these thoughts racing through my mind,
I will make another piece to fit,
I'll just have to settle for less,
but the piece will never fit quite right,
I'll always second guess,
and hope the real piece never shattered,
but lies whole somewhere, some place,
and I'll find that puzzle piece again,
to complete my puzzle's face.
