Life, Love and Death

by Katra   Dec 28, 2007

Born just after the saddest day on Earth
The day after it all ended
Hers was just beginning
The time gap of 74 years didn't matter
Memories of death and destruction don't fade
Those still alive don't forget
This child was born surrounded by sorrow
This child was born surrounded from hatred
Though she would not yet know it
Her life was to be born of revenge
While young she was happy
Diffrent but happy
By the time she was eight
She believed she could do no wrong
Never ill, naughty or unfriendly
Then came the death
This blood relative old enough to remember the day of sorrow
Drew her last breath
The child's mother was distraught
Mad with endless grief
Her father tried to save her
The mother refused and split the family
Moved them over 100 miles away from all they knew
The child and her brothers, for she had two
Had to go to a new school
A common school, a free school
Different from their old
The brothers made friends easily
But the child did not
She was different, too different
This once happy child, talkative and bouncy
Became quiet, withdrawn and lonely
The mother, too depressed, never noticed this change
For she was trying to drown her sorrow
Drown it in men not the child's father and in drink
The child grew up
For she didn't know different
Up on to secondary school where the teachers had fake smiles
The pupils, for it was an all girls school, were two faced
Friendly first, then teachers backs turned teasing
She spoke to a few people, but even her smiles were fake
She fell in love, but got rejected
Her heart hardened
She carried on with life
Then she met her soul mate
But there was a problem
He was older
They both felt the connection
But got no further
For she was fifteen and he was thirty-two
She refused to be like the rest of the girls
Whom each had secret loves of all the teachers
Except this one
He too was different, he was a male version of her
Same humour, same tastes, same hates
Night after night, day after day
They each battled their attractions
Till it came to a point
Where others noticed it
One more thing for each to be teased about
She got into fights
Before he could defend her honour
She taught them to leave her alone
At the height of her adrenaline
She saw him there
And she knew she could fight no longer
She ran to him, instinct taking over
Each giving up the fight
Baring their souls
Giving ones complete self to another
The mother was furious, the father who had found the family, even more so
There was a massive scandal
He could not handle it
He died, taking his own life
Leaving her alone to face the world
She died of sorrow
Never to fulfil her destiny
But before she went
All she had to say
Was written, here for you and me
She hopes you enjoyed her life
For that child
I am she.
