A Serpent's Tongue

by Gregory W Golden   Dec 31, 2007

Two eggs at best
In mother's nest
They wobble and shake
Both eggshells break
One hatch a bird
The other a snake
One with a beak
The other without feet, and
He possesses a serpent's tongue
The sneak who is clever
Wanted the little bird's wings
Surely, you cannot fly with these things
After a week, they both fill asleep
Without a peep, the snake shall creep
He crawled and coiled himself around the bird asleep
The snake did strike with poisonous venom
Then, swallowed the bird whole from head to feet
Mother, she chirped and mother, she cried.
Who killed my baby and why did he die
The snake replied: do we live on this earth for a very short while
As time past on, the snake grew strong, and he obtained a fresh pair of wings
Unfortunately, he did not give mother enough time to collect his things
Meanwhile, dust and feathers remain in the nest
Her only begotten son, spread both wings and sailed toward the sun
