Thoughts At Night

by Brad Champagne   Jan 2, 2008

In a soft and silent, endless night,
Whilst the weary world yet sleeps,
Memories flood my mind and sight,
And me from rest once more doth keep.

The good, the bad are all the same,
As through me all do race,
To once again relive the pain
Of every small mistake.

I cannot forgive my past
Of foolishness and pride,
But into shadow I am cast,
There for my time reside.

Sad it is when love is lost
And hope is but a dream.
Dearly I have paid the cost,
Though never be redeemed.

Through bitter anguish, toil, and strife
My existence has struggled on.
I barely call this thing a life,
But movement of a pawn.

So with the dark all retire,
As once more all doth rise
To struggle the unending mire
Till the next night's reprise.
