The Death of Love

by Brad Champagne   Jan 2, 2008

I've lost my faith in life and love,
In honesty and pride,
For while existence struggles on
My soul has all but died.

Happiness and joy have passed away
To leave the darkening night.
Others make known their fortunes good
And futures shining bright.

When trust and friendship proves untrue,
Nothing of the heart prevails
As anarchy and grief become
The broken heart's grave wail.

Where once I used to call to you,
I now find the strength within
To put your memory in the past.
Let the healing rain begin.

Leaving me so long in ignorance
Of the way you truly feel
Shattered my respect and showed
Your better life of zeal.

Never have I felt so robbed, betrayed,
By the one I thought a friend so dear,
Though I find I never meant that much,
As time and reason make all too clear.

Friendship treating me, oh, so well,
Makes enemies seem all too tame,
For at least they make intentions known,
Both mostly now the same.

Death could find no more set soul,
Despising what the world has given,
Mine, which struggles just to know
I'll never be forgiven.

So, down with life, and love, and all
The glories people sing its name.
I'd rather spend my time alone
Than risk again such bitter shame.

I care not what you choose to do,
Or with whom you spend your time.
I only wish to wholly forget
The days of "we", my crimes.

Drink, be merry, celebrate!
I won't bother your grand parade,
But stand aside and hide within
My invisible charade.

Peace and understanding I leave
To those with something left to lose.
Myself, I'd rather deeply drown
These thoughts in endless boose.

Keep your sorries, save your breath,
Spend them on no deafened ears.
Words, as now, have no affect,
So, let me shed unheeded tears.

If my friendship you wish to save,
Then perhaps in time it shall be
Possible to earn my trust, respect,
Though in the future we shall see.

What a beautiful yet sad poem. You had great friendship qualities and you're looking for the same in that special friend, then when you found out that he/ she is not what you'd expected and you're let down, It gives broken heart, yet you're ready if that person change there migh be a second chance. Sometimes take it from me, some people does not merits true friendship because they don't know what it is.
Keep on writing, you'll get over it and also there are so many genuine people out there.
