The Best from the Past

by Michael D Nalley   Jan 6, 2008

The line it is drawn, and the curse it is cast
The only survivors are the best from the past
The un-forgiven in hell, while the forgiven ascend
Where did we all begin and where will we end

Our physical world is part of a system, or set
Because of this system our needs are met
It would be foolish to imagine life without the sun
Some believe from universal love life was begun

Some try to imagine a spiritual life without love
As if they were independent from warmth from above
If the universe, and existence did not begin with a thought
How can something come from nothing when what is, is naught?

Some say the best is yet to come, others say nay it has already been
The world was perfect before the straying path, and fall of men
The line it is drawn, and the curse it is cast
The only survivors are the best from the past

Without that odd rhyme on the last stanza, the flow was perfect, and it was quite difficult to envisage what exactly you were getting at, but in reality it could be twisted and turned to relate to anyone's perspective - for them to make what they will of it as it were. Some really good single lines as well, really enoyed this poem.

Was just wondering, is your book available just in the US?

Wow... this poem is amazing! I really really love the line "The only survivors are the best from the past" .. and it is so true in so many ways.. It kinda related to my poem in some way of how I'm living in my past.. and only the best have made it to my present.. I could be off but thats how I see it.. excellent job!.. keep it up and thanks for the comment =)
