A Tribute to Elizabeth Eckford

by Richard L.   Jan 8, 2008

The toughest people in this country is not how strong you are by physique, but in how strong you are in character
Sometimes it takes too many deaths and abuse for everyone to see,
To see what it takes to get equality in America
A lot of blacks put their own lives on the line not to be a Hero
but to make a difference and get what is right to all the people
It takes a lot of strength to not retaliate to all the abuse one gets
Some of that still haunts people 'til this day that they can never forget
One woman says she paid a high price after all her great effort
One woman who stepped up for what she deserved was Elizabeth Eckford
She looked for any adults to come out of the mob to help her, but she saw that no one did
When you engage in friendship with someone who is being harassed, you can help somebody live
She personally experienced that when it was hard for her just to make a white friend
Out of all the Little Rock Nine, she was the only one who said she wouldn't do it again
A lot of people do not recognize all the abuse Elizabeth went through
You have to ask yourself if your willing to put yourself in her shoes
Are you willing to go to a school where you no one wants you there
Where a mob who wants you hung and dead follow you everywhere
Would you be able to take being cursed at, picked on, or spat on
Teachers wouldt do anything so they wouldn't stop until they seen you gone
Elizabeth Eckford was one of the few in this country who suffered to make a change
Anyone can step up to make a difference because Elizabeth was only fifteen years of age
