The dreadful looking glass

by amber   Jan 8, 2008

The perfect image to my future
That haunting to my past
The things in which we can't escape
The dreadful looking glass

Some post it on a high wall
For everyone to see
The perfect life they seem to lead
The life of mockery

Some hide it in a closet
For some feel it's to vain
People don't show off what they have
Who would do such a thing

Some don't have a glass at all
For their life is dreadful enough
They go through life with calluses and bruises
The image they give is tough

When deep down inside if you look you'll see
Piece by piece it's shattered
Seven years bad luck they say
It's not like it really mattered

Some go through life avoiding the mirror
Afraid of what looks back
Afraid to face that final challenge
The dreadful looking glass

But what is held by this awful thing
The price to which we live
The greed in which we see ourselves
The pride we have none to give.

The perfect image to my future
That haunting to my past
The things in which we can't escape
The dreadful looking glass

Powerful and very deep from the beginning to the end. The repetition of the first stanza as the last one is truly effective and it rounded up whole poem greatly.
I like the topic and your interesting descriptions.
    Well done!
