Perfect

I set alone in this dark room
Searching for the light.
I feel so cold and helpless.
My days? They feel like night.

I don't know what else I can do
To make you proud of me.
And not want someone better
Than what, in me, you see.

I couldn't count how many nights
In this room, I've sat and cried.
I never knew it possible
To feel so lost and empty inside.

You know, I've lied so many times
Though I never wanted to.
You ask if everything's ok
And I've never told the truth.

I don't know what to do
To make you happy and proud.
To say I'm yours and yours alone.
And to want to scream it aloud.

So I sit and write this poem
Hoping one day you will see.
And not want someone better
But just love me for me.
