Price of Love (Re-visited)

by jamie f   Jan 9, 2008

This penny I'll place in your hand
A token of my lust
But also of affection, joy
Friendship, and of trust

Another shows you courage
I promise I'll show you it soon
Anything you want is yours
Deep ocean to milky moon

Two more are for your sorrows,
Making enemies of us each
I'll take them back, won't ride that track
Come sit within my reach

A tenner sums up every kiss
Shared in that short sweet time
'Small price to pay' I ponder
'Even from a wallet empty as mine'

Four-score and ten you take again
Though I'll still sit here grinning
This one is for the laughs we shared
And times we locked eyes sinning

These pennies will keep building up
A mockery of you making
For I have nothing left to give
But still you keep on taking

Money well spent; or maybe not
But I am not ashamed
Made my mistakes, apologised
Now who's left to be blamed?

This penny I'll place in your hand
A token of disgust
A remedy for my swollen head;
And the ecstasy stolen from us

So count those pennies my sweet Scrooge
Feel my heart between your fingers
I remember every penny spent
From down here 'mongst our cinders
