Pretty Girl

by Soulful Ensemble   Jan 11, 2008

Pretty girl, with your eyes that shine through autumn and become spring,
I see everything that I've missed and that to my heart I've tried to bring.
I see a big blue sky with great yellow clouds that burst to let the sun through;
And your eyes play their riddles to tell the guys they're not for you.

I see the hard, brown leaves of a dry autumn leave my sight,
They're jealous-- They've been shamed-- by your smile that closes; to make it night.
The sun puts up quite a long, dreadful fight
In fending off the men who steal its lullabies.
They need them to impress you til' you drop tonight
So they can have you to themselves and then leave without goodbyes.

If they only knew you were all mine
The winter and the autumn would cry.
Summer would never again be fine
And spring could not even try.

Pretty girl, your hair burns golden after thoughts into my every smile,
With the light of heaven you stand and wave a while.
Your eyes tell me you're not here to trick or beguile,
But rather to judge the earth and make all fools walk for miles.

Your shadow, I step into, in an attempt to find you when its dark,
Because I forget you go from sun to moon,
As if to make your mark
Of beauty on this world of fiery hearts
That leak with hateful sins and angry barks.
Pretty girl, your ideal is of a new voyage of love to embark
Upon which, everyone can come aboard-- unlike an other ark.

Your character is sweet and always there for me,
When I need someone with whom to share all this.
I'd never yell at you to " let me be!"
And I promise, I'd never rudely hiss
To get you to be quiet, amid an anger spree.

Your pretty smile is pure and well refined,
You know when to show it.
It could get you out of a bind
Even if it be by God-- and you know it.

Your pretty laugh of Venus shames the stars,
And makes Athena so unwise.
You force the deities to attack the God of war: Mars,
With a smile, even Aphrodite, cannot device.

Love, I only pray that I
Can look into your eyes and smile.
You are the answer to life's "why?"
And make every pain worthwhile.

I believe she is, I showed it to her and told her it was for her I wrote it.
