The broken "friend" ship

by keithnwv   Jan 12, 2008

The ship set sail a year ago
what a joyous time indeed
full of excitement about what lie ahead
from its mooring it was freed

what a beautiful time as the sea did roll
it seemed they were on air
enjoying life and having fun
time passed without a care

a time of peace it seemed they'd found
sharing things once hidden inside
at last someone was there to listen
and in whom they could confide

but like all stories from in the past
as ships have sailed the seas
there are pirates out there who take advantage
and do just what they please

from out of the blue the attack came on
the ship rocked like in bad weather
for them to survive they thought it best
to no longer stay together

in different directions they did go
one to the stern and one the bow
with that done the attack slowed down
and they made it thru somehow

scarred from the battle, it felt unsafe
to reconnect like before
the ship had taken some major hits
its hull wouldn't take much more

the pirates had won, mission complete
their joy now lost at sea
they long to have the tide roll in
and from the ocean to be freed

then one day on the horizon ahead
to see that ship sailing once again
and not have to hide what they have known
they just wanted to be friends

What a wonderful poem, sad but wonderful. Don't you think sometimes we just let the pirates win, either too tired or too afraid to battle once again?
You have a wonderful way with words.

    Sad lovely poem!

I love your work and it really hits home to me most of it... sometimes with friends but sometimes with family relationships...

Poeple turn, change etc... sad reality....

    Good piece!

    Keep up the great poetry!

Failed or defunct friendships seem to be a theme of my personal experience. Reading this helps me look into several issues and deal with them in a very imaginative way, for that I am indebted to you.

It is truly sad when a friendship is stopped by other people. If you know in your heart that is all it would ever be then there is nothing wrong with it. Some people like to make something very pure and turn it into something very nasty. I am sorry but I feel like you have written about your others, there is to strong of a connection there. It is heartbreaking people will not leave well enough alone. Such strong metaphors. You have painted such a beautiful poem here. I loved the analogy of pirates, because they steal so much and what better way to put a stolen friendship. I pray nothing but the best for you.
