Uncomfortably Numb

by Diane   Jan 13, 2008

The poem you are about to read is from an actual occurrence that happened to me many years ago. Reflecting back I had awoken to what I thought was my house on fire. I couldn't move my body to get out of bed it was like I was possessed. Apparently, or so I've been told, my body was still in a numb state of sleep which had a greater sensation to light and sounds.

Awoken to the sound of a roaring fire
Body won't move I'm stuck in a mire
A fiery glow now at my window
Why can't I just get up and go
Something has a hold on me
Please Lord help set me free
Try as I might I can't even turn
Lord don't leave me here to die and burn
Then my panic turned to relief
I can hear the rustling of a leaf
I can feel my legs stir and shiver
The fiery glow is now a shimmer

Wow...I've had some interesting dreams but nothing this frightening! You've captured your fears very well in this poem. Great job! 5/5

I've heard about this before...sleep paralysis isn't it? Great imagery however the rythm just seemed slightly off in certain parts. It started off well and the last three lines had a good flow but i'm more referring to lines 3 and 4. However certainly a unique poem which i enjoyed reading. xoxo
