A Simple Flower

by Matt Arent   Jan 16, 2008

I lay on my back,
Watching the clouds roll by.
The shapes remind me of one person,
This person will be my true love.
I can see your voice up there,
I relax more that I ever have before.
Green grass surrounds me,
Its touch is so soft.
A breeze goes by,
A sweet smell floats over my nose.
My heart skips a beat,
Its unbelievably perfect.
I hear a noise,
I sit up surprised.
I am confused,
No one should be here.
Looking around I see nothing,
Only trees swaying in the breeze.
I get up and start for home,
My drive is lonely.
I think of when I may meet my love,
Hoping its not far away.
I stop at the flower market,
Hoping to lift my spirit.
The line for checkout is long,
Thinking of passing the time I turn to talk.
I turn around and see you,
Words fail to come.
I sqeeze out enough to ask for dinner,
You said yes.
