Serenity

Dishelved and dreary
A girl named Serenity
Hunched over, holding herself
Everyone's walking by, not caring that she needs help
Thrown out on the streets
It's been months since she could really sleep
The bitter winds turning her skin into stone
Not one blanket she salvaged
Not a pillow, nor a home
Her mother made her leave
Her Step-Father had her decieved
She was assaulted, and abused
Her real father left her to be used
With no one to trust
And no home to be loved

One frightful fist
Cover your eyes
"You deserved it!"
(That's a lie.)
She knows it's not true
A black and blueish bruise
Over the expectant raise
Her big eyes glazed
She packs her things
And runs away

Hush now, little child
[Looking down she says
As a single, dirty tear rolls down her cheekbones]
In a little while
We can live again
We're on our way to a better place
We're on our way to nowhere safe
A home of sidewalks, and brick walls
A sanctuary where God calls
The home for people all alone
The home we can call our own
