Like Me 4-5-01 (Song)

by Phil Laws   Jan 20, 2008

A smile drawn up by beauty
A dream embraced from the start
Though not true enough to put faith in
So maybe she should hold her heart
They say love should last to swim in
But where can you find the spring
Does the run-off flow through trust
Or is it found in nothing
Unlike me

A city of stars
Leaving a trail of bewildered seers
This city of ours
Where nothing's as dank as it appears

Like me at all - or sit there
Dealing smiles all the while
Like water she shines but doesn't burn
And with immeasurable style
She gives without thought of return
A love that is resolute
Completely and easily, but
Like me, involute

A city of stars
Leaving a trail of bewildered seers
This city of ours
Where nothing's as dank as it appears

Like me, hopefully - or us
In this damper urban skyline
That seems to extinguish light
Discarding sight to dim design
Of fate and luck that wrong me right
Beyond knowing I'm not cursed
I only wrought what I sought
Like good times that got, like me, immersed

A city of stars
Leaving a trail of bewildered seers
This city of ours
Where nothing's as dank as it appears
