I've often wondered
What hides
Behind the shadows
That veil your heart-
The secrets that lie untold
And the dreams
That have never been heard-
The fears & pains
That rule your soul-
What is the very substance
That makes you go?
I want to know.
Your eyes speak volumes
In a foreign tongue
With no great desire
To be understood,
But I am not disheartened
I want to learn your language,
If you'd let me in.
If only you'd open your fortress
To an old friend...
An old lover...
Allow me to enter in,
Pass the boundaries
Which have kept you safe,
Into that secret place
You hold so dear
I won't hurt you,
I swear.
I've seen your performance
Day after day
And I'm not swayed.
Scores of followers
Flock to you
And yet,
There are so few
Who even catch an inkling
Of the truth -
They don't know
Anymore than the character
You choose to show.
But I too
Am an actor -
I am not fooled.
Your smile,
Your touch,
Your kiss
All signs of an erroneous bliss
That masks
The tremors in your heart
And I've seen this-
Though only in part.
Through your treacherous eyes
I've been afforded
A glimpse of your life.
I will not depart
From your side.
I am determined
To speak your language
And enter into
Your inner most courts-
I am not afraid
Nor will I cast my judgement
