Our Own World

by Jessica   Jan 24, 2008

Who are we all
With all the needs in the world
We would rather turn our backs on one another
The world is telling us to conform
We feel the worst when it's our own dignity on the line
We lash out at the people that are closest to us

What has become of us when a child no longer misses its mother
When we resent the people that are able to beat the temptation
We wonder why there are addicts, cutters, and alcoholics
How else do you expect people to hide the pain

We all sit here waiting for someone to be different
But will we even accept them if they are
People look through the pages of magazines for heroes
When did we all become so obsessed with looks and success
Will one day all of this change

Will we finally trust people enough to let them in all the way
We all have our deepest darkest secretes
With all that we have done is there even hope
We always hope for the best
But can we even recognize it

We raise our children to be just like us only better
Yet we resent them for surpassing our success
With open arms we sent them out into this world
A world that we have filled with hypocrisy, lies, and hate
We want them to succeed but at what cost
What are we willing to sacrifice for our selfishness
Will love be able to save us?
