Faulty Calculations.

by SmileeItsBritt   Jan 30, 2008

This war began before it even started,
So I waved goodbye to our careless hearts,
And I screamed with the prayers left unanswered
With a smile I shuttered and ran into the dark.

As I spoke of subtlety and overused pleas,
I breathed in deep, and let out a sigh
I was trying to drown it all out, out of my head
But no matter how hard I pushed, all that remained was you're lies.

No, we're not the reason this was all shot to hell,
They took one look at us, and pictured a crime
But we're still standing on our own two feet
Yeah, we seem to be getting along quite fine.

No one could ever prove the cause as valid,
The evidence was tampered with far beyond repair.
But as we looked into the deep blue sky,
It no longer seemed to matter, we no longer cared.

So as I headed out to the hills, I paused
Recollecting every chance I missed to look into you're eyes
So as this weight is lifted off of my chest,
I truly am embracing the finality of our goodbyes.

So they can speak of our stories, and come up with lies.
They can calculate and formulate with figures and numbers,
They can escape to a world of their wildest dreams,
But no one will ever know what happened that summer.

For some reason.. your poems remind me of Bright Eyes lyrics. You decide if that is flattering or not.

I really like the concept and tone though of this poem. It comes across very sad and I like the fact that it does so. It touches base with the readers emotions.
