Restlessness

by xLaurax   Jan 30, 2008

As moonlight drowns the darkened streets,
I lay and wait for dreamless sleep,
Yet into the darkness I continue to stare,
Worrying about things I cannot share.
Shadows whisper across the room,
And dreadful thoughts begin to bloom,
These worries are now beyond despair,
I long to live without a care.
My sweet release has yet to come,
I count the shadows, one by one.
This sleeplessness seems quite unfair,
And I whisper into the cool night air,
"Is my sleep yet to come?"
The shadows answer, one by one.
"Sleep will be your sweet release,"
"Yet your worries shall never cease,"
"Your aching heart seems rather dull,"
"So we shall leave your aching skull."
And I shiver, as they go,
Leaving me with unsettling cold.
The sun is rising, light fills the streets,
And my mind is yet to find its sleep.
