Fading Youth

by Darkening Dawn   Feb 1, 2008

Touch the shadows of tomorrow
with withered dreams of hope
looking out of the chasm of the future
today seems so bleak,
consumed by a think fog of forgotten innocence
I look down to the whithered hands of youth
burdened by responsibility
Corrupted by the world
With watcher's eyes, I observe the passing faith,
breaking love, meaningless vows
Empty words pass between the walkers of the street
trampling the beauty of youth

Now I watch as the young arms bear sweet breaths of life
and wonder what it is that makes them grow old
to embrace things not of their time
I wish they could see their fading youth
that bears burdens meant for the hands of the old
They seem to toss caution to the wind
And forget they have many years to come
