Why is it when something or someone can make you feel so happy you can still feel the need to cry about something that shouldn't matter anymore?

Love can mean loss
love can mean gain
love can mean happiness
love can mean pain

Purgatory is said to be far worse than hell so why have hell if purgatory is worse?

Death is feared by all, yet life brings us pain and things far worse.

When we are dead we are said to feel nothing, so how can hell be torture?
