Suffering through my teenage years, I expressed my thoughts and feelings upon a piece of paper, creating works of art with poetry. although my life was burning with pain and distress during my childhood, writing poetry was a way to escape. I write about the conflicts with poverty, drug abuse, being homeless, suicide, and racism with words spilling feeling and emotions. I also write about my Native people with problems they have to face on the rez. Before I knew it, my fights with life were escaping upon paper. In my poetry people can relate the heartaches as they began to read. During Open Mic reading, the emotion of my voice when I began to read makes people feel spiritual of my sadness. Some people are shocked with overwhelming feeling and can't believe all the emotion and feeling I put in my poems. Some people can relate to my poetry because they too have suffered the heartaches of a struggling life. Not only can they relate, but also they can make a picture inside their heads. Writing poetry is my way to escape problems with everyday life by clearing my head.
