They give their lives to protect ours,
And stay awake for endless hours...
I stand here all alone.
No comfort from anyone...
Their graves are marked with chiseled stones,
While their bodies lie under so dead and cold...
People look a me with such strange faces.
If only with them could I trade places...
These bugs are all around me.
They really start to confound me...
I once had a friend who lived in despair,
Though she was beautiful, young, and so fair...
The darkness falls within my soul,
And covers all the light I know...
It comes like a thief and steals away
The ones I love and want to stay...
I kneel down and caress the stone.
The grass is fresh and neatly mown...
I cannot stand all this pain.
I cannot take this strain...
Through wind and waves and perilous night,
Through dangers risks and hazardous flights...
He seems so happy when at first
He falls in love to quench his thirst...
