Frog disection

OKay, we're doing a frog disection in class and I said I wouldnt do it, one girl (who I dont really like by the way) asked me why I wasn't going to do it, I told her the truth, I dont think its right to kill animals just for us to disect unless its in medical school. After about five minutes we got into a fight, she told me that they 'are jsut twenty frogs its not like they matter' and I got really mad at her.
Ties my pet peeve when people say that... I feel bad for yelling at her but Im also really pissed that she would say that to my face when she knows how I feel. I also find it disrespecfull that our teacher is doing this even though we dont need to.

You should stand up for what you believe! if it makes you mad, let it, you have every right to be mad!! im against disection too! and you shouldn't have to do it if you dont want to!

Actually its quite important to have a first hand feel on how the body works... besides these animals are long dead and they provide a service for science...

It is your teachers job and it is part of the cirriculum, you don't have to do it if you don't wish, i know I didn't back in school, but all of my friends did. Not everyone is going to feel the same way or understand why you feel the way you do, just stick to your values and do what's right for you.

I found it really kewl.. but then again I was a med student before I had to go on medical leave myself...

Talk to your teacher and see if you can do a virtual online disection. They are basically the same as far as knowing what part is what; only you are not working on an animal in real life.

Try to reach a compromise and offer to take 10 points less than the actual score if needed. It beats getting a zero and you will learn some very interesting stuff.

The animals they usually get us to dicect are already dead.. sometimes they come from the butcher or regular markets so it's ok to dicect them. I dunno how it goes where you live, but I'm ok with dicection as long as I don have to kill the creature. I agree with sher about the virtual online dicection.

I dissected two frogs for fun with my sister a while ago, but they had already died.
I agree, I do not kill animals.
But I enjoyed the experiance of looking under its skin.lol

The point is that its NOT part of the curriculum, we're not suposed to do this for another couple years (im not sure exactly) and my teacher is just doing this for 'fun.'

I refused to do it with the insect we had to, I sat and did the paperwork instead that every group did.
