Aye, i been on them a little over a month & i havent really noticed any change. the doc said he will keep me on this dosage for a little longer as he said they will have only just started to take effect. but that he will probably up my dosage when i go back to see him in 3 weeks. i still feel like shit though. but there only pills, i dont expect no miracles.

I'm on 10mg of Citalopram (also known as Celexa, i think thats how you spell it)
They work for a while, but then when it starts to wear off, the depression hits hard till you take another pill.

Well yes there obviously is a point. i wanted to see how many people are actually on them cos theres supposed to be alot. i want to know what people think about them. i personally dont know anyone on them and i want to find others and see what their experiences are. isnt that what all these internets forums are for?
this is a forum on sadness & depression and i think anti-depressants fits in well with that.
so in conclusion to your question there is a point in asking.

Ok well maybe i didnt express myself well enough in the first post.

& lace when you say you need another pill is it like an addiction?
because my sister wasnt so sure about me taking them cos about 5 years ago her mate got addicted to them and had a really hard time coming of them. i dunno exactly which ones she took.

Why are you acting like its a good thing to be on them....

Why take pills? Go outside instead. Buy a season of your favourite show, invite some friends and have fun watching it.

Ask yourself, WHO is really in control here?

Becuase all the cool kids take pills. haha. joke.

and you really think that beating depression is as simple as watching a bloody tv show. your seriously mistaken. if only it was that simple!. anti depressants wouldnt be the most prescribed drugs in many western countries. doctors dont prescribe drugs for the sake of it you know!

and to answe your question on control.... i guess we're not that much in control. its not something you can control. we take the meds so we CAN CONTROL. depression is an illness, you take meds to try help relieve the illness. would you moan if someone with high blood pressure took their meds. would you imply that its a bad thing that they have no control over something that it is impossible for them to control? they take the meds to control it, just the same as we take meds.

Ive been on them on and off like a million times.....at the end of the day i still feel like crap.........nothing helps...

...At the end of the day you just need someone who cares,
    Someone who listens,
    Someone who notices,
    Someone that will save you,
    Someone to love,
Someone that makes you feel like you are everything.......

    ........................i want it..................

Aye antidepressants are not the cure. you need much more than the pills to get better. therapy is needed as well.

& to the girl above the last post. erm i dont really know. i only been on them 5 weeks and im only starting to feel a slight difference. they just supposed to lift your mood by messing with your brain chemicals.

"'doctors dont prescribe drugs for the sake of it you know!"

Yes they do. It's all business, man. Nothing else. They brainwash people with these pills. I have friends who've been on them, so I'm not talking out of my rear end here.

Pills for "depression" are different than pills for other illnesses. Change comes from within YOU, I wonder why can't people realize this. Your mind makes you think that taking these anti depressants will do something for you and maybe they do. Unless YOU want a better life and unless you change your attitude and start thinking more positively, you will always be "depressed". It's all in your surroundings. You think my life is so pink and happy and awesome? No, but I'm still ridiculously happy. Because I want to be.

Erm here in the uk its not a business. everything is on the NHS you get them for free or for a standard prescription price which is cheeper than antidepressants cost.

yes change does come from within you but you do need help. you cant just change like that or people wouldnt be depressed. & you say your life isnt that good either but you aint depressed. everyone is different remember. everyone reacts different to different things, so just becuase your happy doesnt mean everyone else is. you seem to have a lack of empathy here.
and also i noticed you put "depression" are you suggesting that its not depression that its not valid???
& no i dont agree anti-depressants are different from other pills as depression is an illness. they are used to treat an illness.

They don't rip the money off you. It's still business.. SOMEONE pays for those pills, right? They don't come from nothing.

How are you so sure it's an illness? People call everything illness these days. I'm not lacking empathy, I've been there. I've been a "depressed teen", like eeeverybody. I've been pretty low. You don't need pills. All you need to do is change your lifestyle and attitude. It's hard but not impossible.

If the pills are pointless the doc wouldnt prescribe them, the nhs wouldnt waste money on them.
im not a depressed teen, i am not a teenager. and not everybody is depressed. your disregarding depression as nothing. depression can cause death. i dont think you understand what im trying to say here, you keep coming back with things like "all you need to do is change this" "do that". when u are depressed and your mind is set in such ways its not so simple as deciding to change things.
and how are you so sure its not aan illness?
its a problem, its not the norm, psychologically or physically that equates to an illness. hence mental illness.

I agree with you. It IS an illness. My mom was on pills for depression a few years back. She was very ill. I would be on them, but we're absolutely broke and cant afford them. I don't WANT them, but my mom would be happy if I was. >_> And you CAN'T just simply change. When you're depressed, and think different than people who aren't. you tend to be VERY pessimistic. How are you suposed to change if you have that kinda mind set?

I've been on numerous medications for an untold number of bs afflictions. Iwas told I was ADHD in elementary school, put on Adderoll, then taken off and told I was just depressed, put on Prozac, didn't work, got switched to Xanax, then got told I was bipolar, put on Lemictal.

Honestly, I think I am bipolar though, as it runs in my family, but at the same time, I'm not really sure what to believe. I don't take medication for it anymore, as I've taken the personal step to ween myself off and break myself of taking it, and honestly I'm doing fine. I still have low points, but otherwise, I rise again as I normally do. Most of my friends actually tell me that they never would've guess that I was bipolar. O.o

I hate medication, especially anti-depressants. Personally, when I'm put on a medication I become way too dependant, too quickly and only end up more depressed and stressed out than I was before.
