Make sure that when you are hanging out with Jacob that you do not discuss your ex in any way. Even the discussion of him could make Jacob feel as though he is put in the middle.

When your ex shows up just be nice. Say hi and chit chat a little. Don't allow any tension or discomfort to interfere with the friendship that you and Jacob have established.

Also, talk to Jacob. Let him know that you understand his feelings and that you do not want him to choose between you and the ex. Also, let him know that what him and your ex do it between them.

Thank Jacob for being there with you and for making the time to see you. Tell him that you value your friendship and cherish it. Be honest.
