Prophecies In Kodak

Now I realize that there is a lot of debate and a lot of social nonacceptances amongst homosexuals in our society. So if you arent prepared to be open to other opinions and are apt to argue about the situation, please just leave the topic immediately. I am looking for stable opinions, not an argument. And if a debate, a calm and factual one.
Today, as some know is the Day Of Silence. If you dont know, visit http://dayofsilence.org. Once you've read up on that let me explain that a large chunk of our student body are participating in this event. As a group of students walked into the art room a black student said, "This is ridiculous and stupid. Completely pointless. On Martin Luther King day you all better be quiet." Now the funny thing is that the death we are to honor in this event this year was a black boy. He was shot for both his race and his sexual orientation.
The event is not to merely support gays. But to stop the bullying of all races, sexual orientations and genders. Not just the gays and it seems to me that everyone thinks this all revolves around JUST them.
Wouldnt it appear to you that if a black had suffered through years of discrimination they would not discriminate unto another differentiated group? I also find it quite amusing that the minute I told him the boy was black, he shut up and said he didnt have any problem with the event or gays.
So now after that briefing I'm asking all of you.. What do you think this event is really about? Do you support it? Do you believe what the boy did was right? And how do you feel about event like this? Do you find it to be something useless?
Try to answer all of those for me, and if you answer one or all tell me why. I'm wanting opinions of all kinds.
