Am I A Racist?

    Hi everyone,
I was walking yesterday peacefully and happily to meet up my friend. I was passing by a parking lot when a car just arrived there. Three young guys came out off the car. They where dressed up like Jesus, I think for the May Day festifal. I saw about their behaving they were drunken. And when they saw me from far away they started looking at me. I was thinking I better pass them far, I have noticed this islamphobia in Finland long time ago. I was not looking for troubles, just protecting my own safety.

Then they walked towards to me and start talking like "Hi! bla bla bla...". No matter I was Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Atheist...I have NEVER find drunken people attractive and I don't look for their accompany. And to clear for everyone who has not heard about my country and its people...when people get drunk here, they are so drunk they even don't know where to push the button to flush toilet (I am not kidding). Alcoholism is a problem here. So back to the situation. They were shouting after me, I don't remember the exact words but the idea was like this "Yes, this is the meeting point of two cultures... THEY (I guess referring to muslims) behave like this, no wonder there is a conflict. A **** (mother dog..).

And I kept walking.. I thought like yeah... What culture you are talking about.. I have the same blood, I was born in here... And you want to pick up a fight.. You blame me a racist because....eh....I don't want to talk 3 unsophisticated drunken young guys..?

Before they start talking this stuff, I was respective. I respect their stuff and so on. I have no negative attitude towards to any religion or ethnic group.. I have friends who are Hindu, Christian, Muslim etc.

And here I am....this supposed to be MY mother country... I was blamed to be a racist mother dog...

I guess...after reading this...you can also make the same conclusion like them...

I was the bad apple... I created a conflict... Yes...I am and I will be the one to blame...Why....Oh, sorry, I nearly forgot: I AM A MUSLIM IN ISLAMPHOBIA COUNTRY.

And this is a free country... We believe in equality of human.. *laughing* Well, I can see that...surely...

"I guess...after reading this...you can also make the same conclusion like them..."

Funny you don't like how they consider you a racist and then point out that we would also draw the same conclusion. From my stand point your actions were due to the fact that they were drunk and not racially motivated lol

There's a huge difference between being racist and being prejudiced or biased or even arrogant against another concept.

You generalise the whole issue Bob, there's a difference when a person hates an entire race of people than someone who hates a denomination.

One can choose that denomination, but they cannot choose their colour.

I think Noor isn't racist, because quite frankly race hasn't been put into the equation. I think its misunderstanding and paranoia that comes with being from a religion villified by the media as the other enemy of western society.

So again, Noor you aren't racist, just someone who needs to let people down easily...Especially drunk ones...

"If you have to ask that question of yourself, the answer is automatically YES"

Christ almighty are there really still people who think like you? Self anaylsis always results in the path of least resistance does it?

The simple fact is that there are people in this world who have had some terribly negative social interactions with cultures after assuring themselves that they're NOT racist by their openness and acceptance of other cultures. But the cultures that have made them question whether they're actually racist have usually done so in a subtle or persistent manner.

Being white, and having been on the receiving end of a racist attack, let me assure I've questioned my own attitude to racism before. And if you think I'm a racist for questioning this, then it's YOU who has the problem, not I. And I pity you.

And now I've calmed down somewhat from reading such generalized ignorance:

No, Noor, you are not racist. I doubt they were either.

I don't see your avoiding someone because they are drunk, as an act of racism, but I think your above statement is fairly judgmental and unfair.

Oh how you make me laugh.

    Thanks for answering everyone.

I just wondered this by myself because nowdays they write on newspaper personal opinion about muslims in our country and they are blaming us for creating a problem in our society. And facing this kind of things in my own personal life makes to question the issue.

First, like I said, I have no attitude towards to unknown people who are representing some "group." And I am labelling everyone but we all represent some group. Like young, old, Muslim, women etc.

I don't believe in stereotypes but I question if I have some problem as well.

I can not say they are the only bad apple in this story.

Yes, personal I did not call them any sons of something but I didn't behave very correct myself.

I don't feel I am racist towards to Christians in this country but maybe I am not always very smart to create a good image about Muslims.

Maybe I should have greet them with a smile even I was kind of scared of them. I have read from newspapers how some muslims girls have been raped by some racist people only because of their religion.

I am not perfect and nobody is, if we are speaking about living creatures in this planet.

And there is a certain reason why people here have some attitudes towards to muslims. We can not blame only the media for everything. There have been terrorism linked to muslims.

So I think getting rid of these conflicts I and many others should pay attention to act probably.

I think if I would see these drunken people again I would go and say sorry. I would say sorry because I was not polite to them. Drunken or not drunken, one of us were better in this situations.

And answer now to question was I racist, I say I was not. I was only impolite person.

Sluvious: "I wouldn't lose any sleep over it..."

^ I would. Every small act takes me to step in the wrong path. There is no excuse for behaving bad.

I believe in the Day of Judgment and I believe I will be judged by my actions.

If my incorrect behaving creates hate in this planet, yes, I would loose my sleep over it.

You said you were respectful until they started trash talking and then you walked away, so you lost me somewhere along the line. When did you behave badly? Aside from your own obvious generalization in your first post.

It would seem it is their own bad behaviour that stirs the pot.

    Hi Moderator,
Yes, you can say religions are manmade but God is not, right?

I have not kill anyone in the name of God and I would kill anything..

People are people... If they do wrong we can not blame God for it. It is we, who did wrong.

And I agree people should be measured by their inner beauty.. And I believe it happens so- in the Day of Judgment at least... :)

Its funny I see generalisations and there isn't anyone correcting that mistake.

Noor, how can you be racist against a religion, and the same vice versa. Racism, in itself is a double edged sword. Because we are firstly individuals... You're first mistake is assuming everyone is out to get you simply because of your religion.

    Please!

But they sober up, whereas the naturally stupid don't get smart when they're drunk. We have smartdrugs, why not smartbeer? The breweries are missing on a killing...

Bob: I have read Bible and Koran, and also other religions important books. In islam "sin" is totally different than in Chrisitanity. I think you are refering to it. In islam we don't have this "all men are born into sin, we need a savior"-stuff.

"your life here is a test, that you can't pass"
-who said I can't pass? Passing does not mean I will live on Earth forever.

And Bob if you think only religions are started to control people through fear, my personal opinion is you have quite narrow view about religions.

Religions can be a great resource for letting people free in spirtual way.

I think main fact what seperates human and animals is that humans are thinking what happens after life...

And Bob, how do you know which point of life I am? What makes you think I would like you or someone? Explain, please.

I don't dare to make wild guess like you are doing about if I will be "just as confused in year 50 as you were in year 10".

We humans don't know so much, do we?

Rachel:We can not say drunk people are all stupid.

IQ is not related for drinking alcohol. Everything effects on everything.

I can not I am better or clever person only because I am not drunk...

    I just don't like drunk people's behavior.

And alcohol has bad affect on healthy...yes...

My point: the statement is not correct.

The Fallen Mod: May I note something.

Believes may have meaning as well as deeds.

Example: I believe in all good and I wish you all the good for you and I give you bicycle. He believes in bad and he wants everything bad on you but gives you 2 bicycles.

Does believes have any meaning or not?

Or, at the end of the day...it does not have any meaning for you what I or he believed...is that so?

My example is not very good and smart but I wish you got my point of view...

    PS: Excuse my poor English...
