Right, I'm joining the Army after I graduate in '09. I scored a 86 on the ASVAB and I plan on joining the infantry. Does anyone know of any tips to help me during boot camp or have any useful information on how to cope with the transition? What's it going to be like an all that good stuff.

    Army??

Well, i guess i already have a set way to how i see things because i am in the Air Force and have been for 2 1/2 years. But being a girl, i wouldn't want to be in any other branch.

i would never suggest the marines to anyone. i have enough friends in the marines and i've seen too much of what goes on for them.

Army, i honestly don't know a single person so it might not be that bad.

As far as military basic goes, i agree with everything stated above. Basic is actually a lot of fun. i mean you're going to be treated like crap while you're there and you have to run the mile and a half every other day. Definetly get those push ups and sit ups under control. that's a must. And DO volunteer to do one of the jobs while in basic. If you volunteer right away for something or stick out to the instructor, you'll get a job you DONT want! but if you don't volunteer, you'll end up with a horrible job in the end (thats what happened to me)

Relax and have fun. Keep up with the work out and while you are there memorize all your studies... then things will be just fine.

is there a reporting statement in basic for the army?

Oh no, thats not what i meant. When we talked to in the instructors, we had a reporting statement. like for me "Sir, Trainee Williams reports as ordered." I didn't know if there was one for the Army. For some stupid reason, i couldn't remember that for anything and it took me a couple days before i finally got it down and wasn't getting in trouble anymore. i think it was just nerves! lol

Well, i don't know about you, but i loved basic! it was just a load of crap really. Lots of fun, with the instructors just yelling for no reason. i have a lot of fond memories from basic. i loved the working out all the time and wish i was still motivated the way i was then. Ran my mile and a half in basic in 10.37 which is pretty decent for a girl. Now i'm lucky to make it under 15 mins! lol

The military life though is so great. i love it. The uniform, i wear with pride and i enjoy my job. Dorm life sucks though (which i get to move out finally next week!) I don't like the fact that anyone of high ranking can walk into your room at any time. whether you are there or not. being a girl in the military, i don't like that fact that a man can let himself into my room whenever he wants to.

Deploying and seeing other aspects of the military is fun to. being deployed was were i saw the military that i'm proud to be a part of. you have no friends, no family, so everyone comes together to help each other out.

Thirty five perfect push ups aren't too bad. Running two miles I'll have to get used to though. My friend works for AAFES at the Little Rock Airforce Base which has a spectacular gym. I guess I'll start hitching a ride with him and run the track every day while I'm still between jobs. Then when I start working again I suppose I'll run to school/work.

It'd be cool to meet you in the 2nd Brigade, 4th Division Ryan. Where is Fort Carson at?

Sorry, I dunno why I said Ryan. My bad.

Anyways that's a helpful hint. Like I said thirty five is no problem. Fifty is bit tough but do-able.
