For Those Who Can't Comprehend Depression..

I just wondered about those who don't like depressed/suicidal people, why it is they find it fitting to moan on about it? If you don't like reading about depression, or 'attention seeking' suicidal poems, why bother to read them? And if you REALLY do believe that suicidal poems are solely for attention, why do you dignify them with a response?
It just seems like you enjoy creating more conflict for these people..
I'm sorry If this comes across as rude or arrogant It's not my intention.
Oh, and If this is in the wrong place I'm sorry. I didn't know where else to put it.

I can see both parts of the arguement.
I have had depression for about 5 years now, since i was 15 years old. For people who think that it isnt a real illness or it is just an attention seeking thing, you couldnt be more wrong. In fact in some ways it is one of the hardest illnesses to cope with because there is no cure. I mean sure they gave me medication which made me think i was ok at times, but depression is a deep pain and sadness that truly i dont think ever goes away.
I understand also the cutting side, i have the external and internal scars that will never fade, believe me.

However i do find some people do make up a lot of stories and play the whole "well my pain is worse than yours" game. They make up stuff for attention, but to me that too is a form of not being too well emotionally.

Theres my thoughts anyway, feel free to disagree!

Brian I dont agree with you. All the posts you've made are about breaking up with someone. Well big deal...You may not think it now but you will get over them and it aint helping ANYONE to hear you moan all the time. I do not agree with this post. Depression is normally caused by more serious things than breaking up with someone....I dont wanna sound harsh but some people have bigger problems.....

"CheekyBaby" ..People who commit suicide don't necessarily WANT to die, but feel It's the only option. People who post such threads maybe are looking for one last chance at saving themselves. You don't know that they're purposefully seeking attention.
There is also a difference between GETTING help and USING it. Some people know they need help, go to have it .. and don't like it. They know that It's for a good cause, but nothing feels right. It's a bit rude of you to assume they're not trying.

"♥~♥xRachelx♥~♥" ..I think that you're being overly harsh on Brian. You don't know what he's been through or the circumstances in which he's in. What if his loved one was the only thing that he has left? Or feels he has left? Do you not consider that a reason to fall into depression; Losing everything you consider is good for you?

  • xRachelx

Ok yeah I was harsh but I have problems which I think would be bigger than just losing a girlfriend/boyfriend and I dont go around posting on every topic about how bad life is and how depressed I am because of what shit is going on in my life. If she left him, its probably best that they arent together because it probably wasnt working. Can you at least try and see my point of view here? Im sorry about what I said but when I see someone going on and on about how bad their problems are on every single freeking topic it pisses me off.

I can see your point of view .. but I can also see his and unfortunately, I am going to sdie with him. I'm sorry for whatever you're going through, but I'm sure you don't like it when people assume that they have bigger problems than you do, do you?
Maybe he's got alot of confused emotions which he can't deal with, so he's trying whatever he can.
I think it's unfair for you to judge him, when you don't know what he's going through/been through.

  • xRachelx

Yeah I totally understand you going with him on this. Its just I do get annoyed with people who say stuff like if you've done such and such it means you must of expericened depression or whatever. This isnt true. I think people should wait until they have been diagnosed by a doctor with depression before making statements like that. Depression can also run in families: nothing causes it but its there and it wont go away. Sorry I do sound really bitchy today but Im just expressing my opinion! I dont have anything against people who talk about their problems every so often but when its all the time or on every post one after the other, it annoys me!

Just because people haven't been diagnosed doesn't mean they're not depressed. People can be depressed without being clinically proven.

    im sorry "?~?xRachelx?~?"
but im replying to the subject

im not going to a thread that is titles baby names
and stating i miss my girlfriend

im keeping it with in limits
just because i can relate to most of them doesnt mean im trying to get everyones pitty
    i have like 15 posts
there are about 20 topics with about 100 threads under them
im sure i posted "on every topic"

    the weird thing is
    my ex girlfriend is rachel
and she hates andrea almost as much as you do
and you dont even know her
    just like rachel doesnt

    hmmmm
    rachel?

    no
you couldnt be my ex girlfriend
she couldnt write a poem if she tried

but back to what im writing about

im sorry for pissing you off

Can I just say Rachele I think you're talking crap...

Im not sure who posted this initially but they have stated a very valid and true point particularly the part about dignifying these poems/ppl with a response if they dont like reading it or think they are attention seeking - I agree with who ever posted this and good on you for promoting a discussion about it...

On another note Im not to sure if alot of people knows how hard it is for depressed people or people needing help in any manner to better themselves to simply ask for help. Its the first yet the most difficult and biggest step to getting better and certain people wanna put people down for trying to better themselves? That makes me sick and not only that but these people need ENCOURAGEMENT after they have taken the step to ask for help, not the opposite, do these cruel hearted people not have an ounce of human decency in their bodies...?

Lets all not forget that no one is perfect and we all deal with our dramas in different ways, cant we respect that and try to help each other rather than bring each other down? Come on people try walking a mile in someone elses shoes...

Just because your strength seems untouchable, doesn't mean others is too. Think about that.

"Vix" ..I read over what you posted and you make a valid point.
However, self pity can be classed as a form of depression. Annorexia can be formed from self pity; striving to feel right in themselves and being depressed in the long run. Do you not agree?
Self pity is just another form of depression, not something people get confused with.

Eirisa I didnt understand a word of what you said. And thats even if you were talking to me cause my name is RACHEL not RACHELE! I still do not understand why everyone is fighting BRIANS argument when Im sure he can talk for himself! I simply stated that it was annoying me posting on lots of topics about his girlfriend. Now that I look back I did sound extremely harsh but I get like that sometimes. I have problems dealing with anger so Im sorry everyone Ive had a go at but I cannot help it. I sometimes just yell to let my feelings out ok!? I am not a bad person but I kind of give that impression here dont I? Sorry Brian Its none of my buisness anyway. Oh yeah and Im not his ex girlfriend :P
